EV Brake Pads, Discs and Calipers

Usually, yes. Regenerative braking does much of the slowing, so the pads and discs wear more slowly than on a petrol car. They still need checking. Pads that are rarely used hard can glaze, and discs can corrode, so an EV can need new brakes because of age and condition rather than wear. Check them at every service.

Light surface rust after rain is normal on any car and usually clears with the first few stops. On an electric car the rear discs are used so lightly that the rust can build up into pitting and a lip on the edge. If braking feels rough or noisy, have the discs checked and replace them if they are below minimum thickness.

Match the model and year, the axle, front or rear, and the diameter in millimetres shown in the product title. Versions of the same car can take different sizes, for example the 280 mm front disc on the MG4 II and the 345 mm front disc on the MG4 XPOWER. If you are unsure, send us your registration number before you order.

Fit new pads and discs together on the same axle when the discs are worn below minimum thickness, scored, lipped or badly corroded. New pads on a worn disc will not bed in properly and can be noisy. If the discs are in good condition, pads alone can be fine. Always replace both sides of the axle at the same time.

For the Model 3 and Model Y we list front pads, rear pads, Performance pads and a brake light switch. The Model 3 also has 320 mm front, 335 mm rear and 355 mm Performance front discs and a rear brake kit. For the Model S and Model X there are pads, 355 mm front discs, calipers, front hoses, brake kits and parking brake parts.
